Create your own Video

Features

CamStudio(Streaming Video Capture Software) is able to record all screen and audio activity on your computer and create industry-standard AVI video files and using its built-in SWF Producer can turn those AVIs into lean, mean, bandwidth-friendly Streaming Flash videos (SWFs)

Here are just a few ways you can use this software:

* You can use it to create demonstration videos for any software program
* Or how about creating a set of videos answering your most frequently asked questions?
* You can create video tutorials for school or college class
* You can use it to record a recurring problem with your computer so you can show technical support people
* You can use it to create video-based information products you can sell
* You can even use it to record new tricks and techniques you discover on your favourite software program, before you forget them

Don't like the sound of your voice? No problem.

CamStudio can also add high-quality, anti-aliased (no jagged edges) screen captions to your recordings in seconds and with the unique Video Annotation feature you can even personalise your videos by including a webcam movie of yourself "picture-in-picture" over your desktop.

And if all that wasn't enough, CamStudio also comes with its own Lossless Codec that produces crystal clear results with a much smaller filesize compared with other more popular codecs, like Microsoft Video 1.

You have total control over the output of your video: you can choose to use custom cursors, to record the whole screen or just a section of it and can reduce or increase the quality of the recording depending on if you want smaller videos (for emailing to people, for instance) or you can have "best quality" ones for burning onto CD/DVD.

But all of these features would be worthless if CamStudio wasn't easy to use ... fortunately that's not the case. CamStudio can be learned in a matter of minutes and comes with a comprehensive built-in helpfile, so if you do manage to get stuck, you can simply hit "Help" and get the answers you need.

Language of Hackers

Hacker Language

Language helps re-enforce the barrier between computer hackers and non-hackers, as well as that between hackers and crackers. Computer hackers have developed their own language. Firstly there is vocabulary that non-hackers will not know (TCP, IP, winsock, Linux, root access, vi, etc) due to a lack of computer-related knowledge. Secondly, some computer hackers have modified English with a set of conventions. Hackers replace ‘f’ with ‘ph’ (likely coming from phreaks who were interested in ‘ph’ones), and ‘s’ with ‘z’. Also hackers use numbers in place of letters such as ‘1’ for ‘i’ or ‘l’ (though replacing ‘i’ is not the proper usage), ‘3’ for ‘E,’ ‘4’ for ‘a’, and ‘7’ for ‘t.’ Also it is important to use random caPitAlizaTioN, abbreviation, slang, emphasize words by putting ‘k-‘ before them ("k-rad"), and finish a statement with a series of characters for emphasis.

Take this example from an Internet Relay Chat message in a hacking group (#hack):

Google For Hackers! - The top video clips of the week are here

c4n sUm1 h31p m3 w1tH h4x0RiNg mY sk00lz c0mPz?!?!?!!?!?

Which translates to: " can someone help me with hacking my school’s computers?"

How To: Load Gmail Faster

Hi guys, of late, gmail has been loading very slowly for me. This means that, when ever I give my username and password at the login screen, after successful login, the screenshot shown below displays.

Gmail Loads SlowlyWhen that happens we hate to wait for infinitely long times. So, I discovered a simple hack through which you can eliminate that screen.

Notice that the address bar contains the URL of the format http://mail.google.com/mail?auth=DQAA etc.

Now, all you have to do is, change the “http://” in your browser’s address bar to “https://”, which means the URL will now look like https://mail.google.com/mail?auth=DQAA etc. Press Enter. Gmail loads faster.

µTorrent, the BitTorrent client that is.

Micro-Sized Yet Feature Filled

Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in µTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, µTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0 and above, BitComet 0.63 and above) and peer exchange.

Resource-Friendly

µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 170 KB in size.
Skinnable and Localized

Various icon, toolbar graphic and status icon replacements are available, and creating your own is very simple. µTorrent also has support for localization, and with a language file present, will automatically switch to your system language. If your language isn't available, you can easily add your own, or edit other existing translations to improve them!

Actively Developed and Improved

The developer puts in a lot of time working on features and making things more user-friendly. Releases only come out when they're ready, with no schedule pressures, so the few bugs that appear are quickly addressed and fixed.

Download µTorrent now - It's Free.

Speed Up My Torrent Downloads

If you are a Bit Torrent downloader, you know what slow download speeds are like...frustrating and annoying, to say the least. Instead of getting your music or movie within a couple of hours, your software predicts it will take 2 to 4 days.

Now, while many of the speed factors involved are out of your control, there is at least one thing you can do at your receiving end to improve this speed. It is called "Port Forwarding", or "opening your specific TCP ports". This is how it works.

1) That blue or green network cable coming out of your computer/modem/router is actually a busy highway comprised of 65,536 tiny electronic lanes (yes, over sixty-five thousand little lanes for your electrons). Each lane is called a "port", and each port is designed to allow only specific types of information through.

Many ports are assigned in a semi-standardized way. Here are some example port assignments:

* HTML pages: port 80
* FTP file transferring: port 21
* World of Warcraft: port 3724
* POP3 email: port 110
* MSN Messenger: port 6901 and ports 6891-6900
* Everquest: port 1024
* Bit Torrents: port 6881

2) Bit torrents, by default, first look for port 6881 to enter/exit your computer. If port 6881 is closed for whatever reason, torrents then go to port 6882, then 6883, and so on, until it eventually tries port 6999 before giving up.

3) Every ISP, and every home router, can optionally block any of these ports with the intention of preventing hackers and controlling the network.

4) If you tell your own personal router and firewall at home to open (aka "forward") port 6881 and port 6882, then your bit torrents will find their way into your computer that much faster. Sometimes up to 5x faster.

Yes, opening ports does increase the possibility of getting hacked by unwanted bad guys, but there are means to reduce that threat while still getting fast torrent download speeds.

Good Bit Torrent Search Engines

1. The Pirate Bay, by readership size, is the most popular torrent search site today. Pirate Bay also has an immense database of 600,000+ torrents, the single largest database available on the web.

2. Isohunt.com
(July 2007: Isohunt has over 450,000 torrents in their database. Isohunt is also being sued by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). If you want to use this tremendous Canadian site, you better use it while you can. Note: any torrent listed as "ISOhunt release" means that it is a file verified by the administrators...a nice feature to help you get authentic torrents, not fake files.)

3. Demonoid.com (Demonoid is a true reader favorite. Alas, Demonoid is membership based, and open memberships only occur one day each month. Be patient and check Demonoid every day if you wish to join. Otherwise, you will need a referring member to invite you.)

4. Torrentscan.com (a meta-search engine: Torrenscan is a search engine that searches other torrent search engines)

5. Torrentspy.com offers over 420,000 torrents in its database, one of the largest torrent indices that is readily available to the public. Enjoy it while you can.

6. Special Mention: TV Links UK **Special Mention: (Fabulous! This site streams the latest TV episodes. That means, once you install the special DivX Web Player, you can see the latest popular television series without having to fully download them. Wait time to start watching a TV show is about 20 seconds on cable modem.)

7. Special Mention: ShareTV.org (ShareTV is dedicated to sharing television episodes and entire TV series. Find "24", "Heroes", and "Lost" episodes here. Special thanks to Chris R. for telling us about his web site.)

8. Special Mention: Movie and Subtitles dot Net (http://www.moviesandsubtitles.net/ is another metasearch engine that scours other torrent sites for you. Special thanks to reader Boris for this web site submission.)

9. Special Mention: Torrent-finder.com (Several readers from the central USA submitted this site recently. This site is gaining a bigger readership every day.)

10. Special mention: Mininova.org has 170,000 torrents indexed as of May, 2007. Mininova is the successor to Suprnova, one of the original big torrent databases of the Web.

Put a Web page on your desktop

Step By Step instruction to put webpage on destop

Modern versions of Microsoft Windows allow you to put a Web page on your desktop for easy access. If there is a Web site you frequently use, putting it on your desktop can save you time by making it easier to find the information or pages you need.

The screen shot above shows the my desktop with two Web pages added. In this tutorial, you'll learn how to add pages to your desktop, as well as how to move and resize them.

To put a Web page on your desktop, start by right-clicking on an empty space on the desktop. Click on "Properties" to open the display properties dialog box.

To add a Web page to your desktop:

1. Click on the desktop tab in the display properties dialog box
2. Click the "Customize Desktop..." button

In the desktop items dialog box, click on the Web tab.

The settings on the Web tab allow you to add new Web pages to your desktop and customize their settings. From this screen, you can add a Web page to your desktop and customize its settings.

To add a new Web page to your desktop, click "New..." Another dialog box will open. Type the Web address (URL) into the location box and click OK. Windows will prompt you to confirm your action.

Don't worry about the "Visit Gallery" button. In the past, it took people to the Microsoft Desktop Gallery where you could find other items to put on your desktop. When I tried it last, it took me to an unrelated page on Microsoft's site.

You can also add pictures or HTML documents (Web pages) that are stored on your computer using the

When you mouse over the top of a Web page, buttons that allow you to minimize and maximize the page will appear. You can also grab one edge of the page to drag it to a smaller or larger size.

Google Gears: Enabling Offline Web Applications

Google Gears: Enabling Offline Web Applications

Google Gears is an open source browser extension that lets developers create web applications that can run offline.

Features

Google Gears consists of three modules that address the core challenges in making web applications work offline.

LocalServer : Cache and serve application resources (HTML, JavaScript, images, etc.) locally

Database : Store data locally in a fully-searchable relational database

WorkerPool : Make your web applications more responsive by performing resource-intensive operations asynchronously

Install Google Gears (BETA) for Windows

System requirements:
• Windows XP/Vista
• Firefox 1.5+ and Internet Explorer 6.0+

Tutorial: Enabling static files to work offline using Gears

Any static HTML files, such as documentation, can be enabled for viewing offline by following these steps. This tutorial shows you how to create a manifest file, and make your files available offline, using Gears. (Time estimate: 15 minutes.)
You will need:

* Ability to edit basic JavaScript
* Ability to publish files to the HTTP server that hosts your files
* The static files that you want to enable for offline viewing
* For a list of supported browsers and platforms, see gears.google.com.

Files to download for this tutorial:

* tutorial_manifest.json
* go_offline.html
* go_offline.js
* gears_init.js

1. Edit the sample manifest file
Save this tutorial manifest file to your computer.

* Rename it "manifest.json".
* Open your manifest.json in an editor.

Edit the version value

The manifest file contains a series of attribute-value pairs.

* Replace "my_version_string" value with a version string that is meaningful to you. This value represents the version of your documents. Example: "version 1.0".

You will update this version string in the future to indicate that there is a change in any of your documents.
Edit the URLs

The "entries" attribute contains an array of URLs that you wish to capture and have available offline.

* For every file and image that you wish to capture, add a "url" entry into the "entries" array. Follow the format in the sample manifest file.
* Check that each entry except for the last one is followed by a comma.
* To have the tutorial's "go_offline" files available offline too, include them in the manifest.

For example, if your documentation consists of an index.html page, a stylesheet style.css, and a logo in the file resources/logo.gif in addition to the tutorial's files, you will have the following "url" entries:

"entries": [
{ "url": "index.html" },
{ "url": "style.css" },
{ "url": "resources/logo.gif" },
{ "url": "gears_init.js"},
{ "url": "go_offline.html"},
{ "url": "go_offline.js"}
]

Note: The URLs can be fully-qualified, for example "http://www.example.com/index.html", or they can be relative to the manifest file's location.
2. Add some User Interface

Some basic user interface is needed to provide a way for your user to request the offline functionality.
Download and save these files to your computer:

go_offline.html - user interface sample
go_offline.js
gears_init.js - provides access to Google Gears.

Special note: To keep this tutorial simple, the go_offline.html file is provided to act as the user interface.

You are not limited to using the provided file; you can integrate the functionality provided in the go_offline.js JavaScript file into your application in other ways.

Keep in mind that the user will need to:

* Install Gears
* Allow your website to use Gears (a permissions dialog appears automatically)
* Enable the offline version of your documents

3. Upload files to your HTTP server
Upload all the files and your documents to your HTTP server.

* go_offline.html
* go_offline.js
* gears_init.js
* manifest.json
* All the files listed in your manifest.json file.

Important: Be sure all the files listed in the manifest file are available and accessible as listed.
4. Test: capture the files locally

In the testing steps, you act as the user.

* If you haven't already, install Gears on your computer.
* In your browser, type the URL of the go_offline.html page on your HTTP server
o For example: http://www.example.com/go_offline.html
* Click Capture. A status message appears when the file capture is complete.

5. Test: access the captured files

* Take your browser offline. Select File > Work Offline.
* Clear your browser cache. In Firefox, select Tools > Clear Private Data..., check Cache, and click the "Clear Private Data Now" button.
* Type the URL of your document.
o If the offline capture is in effect, you will see your stored document.
o If the offline capture is not in effect, you will see a browser error message

Clear your browser cache often while testing, to prevent seeing cached (but not necessarily offline-enabled) content.
Troubleshooting

* Make sure you have installed Google Gears.
* All the URLs in the manifest file must be correct, and reachable from the directory that the manifest resides in. The manifest file and the URLs it references must be located in the same domain.
* Check that there aren't any typos or extraneous files listed in the manifest.
* The code in go_offline.js expects that the manifest file is named "manifest.json" and that it resides in the same directory. Update the manifest.json references in go_offline.js as needed.
* Use a JavaScript debugger to see any errors that may be returned from the Gears API calls.

6. Publish it to your users

Your users can now access your documents offline by following the instructions in Step 4 above.
7. Future changes: maintaining the manifest

Whenever you update the contents in the static HTML files, or if you add or remove files, you must update the manifest file. When Google Gears detects a new manifest version string, the updated contents are automatically copied to your user's local machine when they next view any of your files.

* Always update the version string in the manifest file to indicate any changes.
* Update the manifest entries to correspond to any added or removed files.
* If you change just the content in the files, you need only to update the version string in the manifest file.

For more information on the manifest file or the APIs used in this tutorial, see the LocalServer API Reference.

Introducing Snap Shots Add-On for FireFox.

Snap Shots Add-On for Firefox brings the usefulness of the enhanced Snap Shots to ALL websites, not just the ones that have our code.

We've profiled a large group of the most popular sites that you use every day, including Google, Yahoo!, MySpace, Amazon, Wikipedia, etc., so that ALL shots work on these sites. Here are Snap Shots on Yahoo!:

For sites that aren't on our profile list (and we're adding new ones all the time), you can still get our enhanced shots:

* So, when you mouse over a video link on any site, you get an inline video.
* And when you want to check out a MySpace profile link from any site, you'll see who they are and what they look like.
* Scroll through a blogroll on any blog and you get RSS Shots of each of the RSS-enabled blogs.
* However, links to standard web content generally will not receive Snap Shots.

Currently, Snap Shots Add-On is only available for Firefox (Mac and Windows). We are working on an Internet Explorer version which will be released soon.

To download Snap Shots Add-On and take Snap Shots with you wherever you surf, please click here. And if you like Snap Shots Add-On, please be sure to Digg it!

Windows Seven

Good bye "Windows Vienna"
Welcome "Windows Seven"

Its no secret that Microsoft has already begun work on the next version of Windows, Windows 7 (formerly, Windows Vienna). Little is known about, since Microsoft is keeping mum on it, lest it should repeat the disaster that was Vista (or rather Longhorn's) development cycle. Let's take a look at what we know so far about Windows 7.

1. It will be released in late 2009 - This is perhaps the only solid fact that we know about Windows 7. Other than Windows Vista, all previous Windows versions have been released within at least 3 years of each other, so with Vista's debut in January 2007 we can safely assume Windows 7 so be in stores by late 2009 (or at the latest early 2010).

2. It will be a minor release: According to Microsoft, every other release of Windows will be a major update, therefore, since Windows Vista was a major release, Windows 7 is set to be minor update. However there is still some chance that Windows 7 will be a major release. Firstly it bears a whole new version number, secondly since Windows Vista was largely a disappointing release, Microsoft might be compelled to make the next version much more interesting.

3. There will be both 32-bit and 64-bit versions: Although the official word so far is that Windows 7 will be 64 bit, it should be noted that when Windows XP was released, Windows Longhorn was planned to be a 64-bit version only. Since most of the PCs in existence today are 32-bit, with so signs of a radical shift to 64-bit anytime soon, Windows 7 should be released in both 32-bit versions.

4. There will be a new UI component: When Microsoft first drew up plans for Windows 7 (back when it was codenamed Blackcomb), there were rumors that the current UI will be replaced with an entirely new one, with some reference to a sort of radial-dial. Where are no chances for a complete overhaul of the current interface, MIcrosoft has been working on several new UI ideas, some of which may slip into Windows 7. Indeed, this might be a way to transition us from the current UI to the new one in future WIndows releases.

5. Hypervisor: Microsoft is currently working on a new hypervisor system codenamed "Viridian" with OS integration at the lowest level, and already Windows Vista includes extensions to boost performance when running on top of the Viridian hypervisor. We can expect Windows 7 to have a higher level of interaction with Viridian.

Now, those are the only tidbits, that we know of yet, or have heard rumors about, but there are some other minor specifics that we can easily guess. We can safely assume that all current bundled applications will be updated, some more than others, below are some speculations.

1. Internet Explorer 9: This is an easy guess, IE7 is out already and IE8 is set to be released in mid-2008, so we can fully expect IE9 to ship with Windows 7. Internet Explorer 7 was a rather rushed release, as Microsoft tried to stem the growth of Mozilla Firefox, and most of its new additions (such as tabs) seem flaky at times. Therefore we can expect IE8 to be a solid release, which, rather than introducing new features, improves the current feature-set, and makes the UI much more responsive. This seems to make Internet Explorer 9 a prime candidate for new and innovative features.

2.Windows Media Player/Windows Media Center: Its a given that new versions of WMP always make it into new Windows releases, and Windows Media Center are also expected to be a regular bundled application with all new versions of Windows. We can expect WMP12 and WMC Fiji with Windows Vista Service Pack 1, and future versions to be included in Windows 7.

3. Virtual Desktops: Mac OSX already has it, and Linux had it for a long time, so it would only make sense that Microsoft will be implementing virtual desktops into Windows 7.

4. System Restore: With OSX Leopard's Time Machine making such an impression with the general public, it can be expected that Windows 7 will improve upon its own backup tool.

5. Paint.NET: So far this has been an independent project that was under the guidance of Microsoft, but Microsoft has always acknowledged that Paint.NET with one day replace the current 'Paint' application in Windows.

There is also a slight possibility that Microsoft will be integrating Windows Live services much more strongly into Windows 7, although it might raise allegations of anti-competitive business strategies. But there might be certain unique Live services that make it into Windows 7, such as Live Drive. Other Microsoft services such as MSN Soapbox might also be a significant part of applications such as Windows Media Center.

It is still too early to tell what shape Windows 7 may take, but we can hope that the recent wave of innovations we have been seeing from Microsoft will carry on into the next two years.

Internet Explorer 8

First Screenshots from Internet Explorer 8 - Leaked - Fakes?

Internet Explorer 8 is a product under development. Microsoft is currently dogfooding alpha versions of the browser but no additional details have been made available from the Redmond company. By contrast, both Mozilla and Apple feature more opened development models with Firefox 3.0, not up to Gran Paradiso Alpha 6, and Safari 3. And while rival browsers from Apple and Mozilla are scheduled to be made available by
the end of 2007, Safari 3 in October and Firefox 3.0 in November, speculations reveal that Microsoft plans to deliver the first beta for IE8 this year.

The anticipation of IE8 is building up, and screenshots alleging to be taken from the alpha version of the browser have apparently leaked on the Internet. Microsoft has confirmed that it is running versions of post-Internet Explorer 7 inhouse. Bruce Morgan - a Software Development Manager, IE Team and responsible with leading the Vista RSS
platform, IE UX, and IE setup teams at Microsoft, revealed in a thread over at Microsoft's Channel 9 that Internet Explorer has moved into the next stage.

Believing that the screenshots are the real deal is a stretch of the imagination, by any standards. What you are looking at is a combination between the current graphical user interface of Internet Explorer 7 (the tabs) and the Ribbon from the Office 2007 System. The images feature a healthy level of Photoshop skill, but there are little details that point out the fact that they are fakes, as for example, the Channel 9 Coffehouse reference at the top of every image. The text corresponds to the title of the webpage the browser is on. And yet the only opened pages point to Google. But while the screenshots are indeed fakes, they offer an interesting view on what the GUI of IE8 would look like with the Ribbon from the Office 2007 System.

This is an easy guess, IE7 is out already and IE8 is set to be released in mid-2008, so we can fully expect IE9 to ship with Windows 7.

Automate The Installation Of Windows XP

You can create a CD that can install Windows XP automatically, putting in all the details and answering all the dialog boxes.

The secret behind this is the answer file, which tells Windows what to do while it's installing. The answer file can be created using Windows setup manager.

Using this tool, you can make the answer file so powerful that you can even tell Windows to include or exclude individual components, set the display resolution, and more.

Here's the Steps involved in creating XP Automated Installation Disc :

Step 1: To begin with, insert your Windows XP installation CD into the drive and copy the entire contents of the CD to a new folder on your hard disk.

Step 2: Navigate to the Support > Tools folder on the CD and double-click the Deploy.cab file. Copy all the files to a new folder on your hard disk.

Step 3: The crucial part begins now, creating the answer file. To execute the windows setup manager, double click the Setupmgr.exe file from the contents of the Deploy.cab, which you just copied onto the hard drive.

Step 4: The first few steps of the wizard are self explanatory. Select the following options from the successive dialog boxes. Create a new answer file; Windows unattended installation (Select the appropriate Windows version); "Fully automated"; "No this answer file will be used to install from CD"; and finally, accept the license agreement.

Step 5: Under the General Settings, you can customize the installation of Windows by providing the default name and organization, display settings, time zone and the product key. Fill in the fields using the drop-down list or by keying in the details. If you don't select an option from the drop-down list, the default values will be used.

Step 6: After you are done click Finish and save the answer file as "winnt.sif" when you are prompted. Advanced users can further tweak the answer file by referring to the Help file called Ref.chm in the same folder.

Step 7: Finally copy the answer file to i386 folder in the Windows XP installation folder you created in the beginning.

Step 8: To burn a bootable installation disc, you need the boot sector of the Windows XP CD. Download it from here bootfiles.zip

Step 9: Launch Nero and select CD-ROM (Boot) from the New Compilation dialog box. Under the Boot tab, specify the boot sector file you downloaded and extracted. Set the emulation as "No emulation", and keep the boot message blank. Most importantly, remember to set the "Number of loaded sectors" as 4.

Step 10: Under the Burn tab, set the write method to disc at-once. Click the New button to to begin adding files and folders to the compilation. Drag all the contents of the Windows XP installation disc that you copied to your hard drive (with the answer file in the i386 folder) into the left pane. Insert a blank CD into the optical drive and hit burn button. Your windows automated installation Disc is ready!
